Everyone Deserves to Know Where They Come From

Professional genealogy research costs money. For many descendants of the enslaved, that cost is a barrier to learning their own family history. That’s not acceptable to me. The Reparational Genealogy Fund exists to bridge that gap. Through donations from supporters and community members, I provide subsidized and fully funded genealogy research for Black families who otherwise couldn’t afford it. This isn’t charity. It’s a form of repair. Slavery deliberately destroyed records, separated families, and erased identities. This is a small way to undo that damage.

How It Works

For Applicants: If you’re a descendant of the enslaved and need financial help to research your family history, you can apply for subsidized research through the fund using the form below. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis.

For Donors: Every dollar donated goes directly toward research hours for families that need help. No overhead, no admin fees. Just research.

Tracing family roots is more than uncovering names and dates; it’s about reclaiming stories, preserving legacies, and building a bridge between past and present. My passion lies in illuminating the histories of African American families, with a focus on the descendants of the enslaved, whose narratives are often hidden or forgotten. The legacies of the enslaved are a critical part of American history, yet their stories are frequently difficult to trace due to systemic erasure and fragmented records. My work focuses on filling these gaps, not only to empower families with their histories but also to contribute to a broader understanding of our shared heritage and history. For descendants of the enslaved, uncovering ancestral roots is a profound act of reclamation, justice, and healing.

Applicants can sign up to be featured during my Reparational Genealogy segment on the Thursday Night Live Weekly Q&A session if they like. If you are selected, you will get a call to verify the information provided, and you will get the date your tree will be featured.
