LaTonya is the Founder and Project Director of the Nomini Hall Slave Legacy Project (NHSL), a groundbreaking initiative tracing the descendants of over 500 enslaved Africans freed by Robert Carter III in 1791. Her passion for genealogy and preserving history has earned her recognition in documentaries, publications, and communities across the country. A triple descendant of families freed by Carter’s Deed of Gift and a native of Baltimore, LaTonya brings a deep connection to the mission of honoring the history of resilience, freedom, and community of the enslaved.
